Work took place overnight to move the iconic tank from its position overlooking the junction at Flensburg Way and Penwortham Way, Farington - known locally as the 'Tank roundabout'.
The move, to a new position on a mound 20m back from the current roundabout, was necessary to enable the next stage of improvement work, adding additional lanes on the roundabout, to be carried out.
Lancashire County Council began improvement work last year to add capacity to the A582 and reduce delays on this key route in and out of Preston, and across South Ribble.
The upgrading of the A582 is one of the four major road schemes included in the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal.
Phill Wilson, City Deal project manager, said: "As with the rest of the project, we've done our best to move this well-loved landmark with the minimum of disruption to the public. It's not every day you have to move a Centurion tank but I'm pleased to say that everything went very smoothly last night and the tank has taken up its new position, from where it should overlook the new and improved roundabout for many years to come."
