Drivers using the northbound M6 through Cheshire are being advised the northbound carriageway between junction 17 at Sandbach and junction 18 at Holmes Chapel is currently closed after a serious incident and is likely to be closed or partially-closed throughout this morning’s peak travel period.
Drivers using the southbound M6 are also advised this carriageway is also likely to be closed briefly at around 7.15am for an air ambulance to land.
The northbound carriageway has been closed following a collision between 2 lorries shortly after 5.15am today (Friday 8 July).
A diversion from junction 17 of the northbound carriageway is in place with drivers asked to follow the 'solid black diamond' symbol to rejoin the motorway at junction 18 via the A534, northbound A50 and then A54 westbound. Drivers wishing to avoid congestion should consider delaying their journeys.
Drivers should check travel conditions before setting out on journeys. Highways England provides live traffic information via its website www.trafficengland.com, local and national radio travel bulletins, electronic road signs and mobile apps. Information is also available from Twitter via @highwaysNWEST as well as services in other regions.
Providing they can do so safely, road users can also call the Highways England customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000 to keep up to date with road conditions.
