West Lancashire residents in six locations across the borough are being encouraged to get involved in community action days right on their doorstep.

The community action days in Tanhouse, Birch Green, Scott Estate Ormskirk, Little Digmoor, Moorside and Digmoor are being organised by West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership working with the Borough Council, Police, Fire Service and other agencies.

Staff from the Borough Council, Police and Fire and Rescue Service will be on the estates offering advice and support on community safety on the dates below. Skips will also be available from 9am until they are full in the locations listed:

Tuesday 9 August Tanhouse, Elmridge, car park to side at 73 to 79
Wednesday 10 August Birch Green, Hartshead, opposite rear of number 13
Thursday 11 August Ormskirk, Scott Estate, Scott Drive, outside of shop
Tuesday 16 August Little Digmoor, Alderley, service road
Wednesday 17 August Moorside, Castlehey, rear of shop
Thursday 18 August Digmoor, Blakehall, in front of 249 Beechtrees

The community action days aim to improve working relationships, increase community confidence and reduce the fear of crime. Previous action days in West Lancashire have been a great success, proving that community spirit is alive and well in the borough.

Councillor Kevin Wright, portfolio holder for Community Safety, said: “I hope residents will take part in the community action days and take the opportunity to use the skips and talk to staff from the Council, Police and other agencies about any concerns they have about crime and community safety.”

Police officers will be on the estates to promote ‘In the Know’ and give advice on crime prevention and other community safety issues. Victims’ Voice will be involved to raise awareness of hate crime, and the support people they can receive if they are a victim.

The Council’s Environmental Enforcement Team and Estates Management Team will also be around to encourage the use of the skips and deal with issues of fly tipping and dog fouling. In addition, Lancashire Probation’s Community Payback Team will be supporting the events.

David Tilleray, Chairman of the West Lancashire Community Safety Partnership, said: “The community action days are great events for the local communities and I’d like to pay tribute to all the organisations, ward councillors and individual residents who play a part to make them successful.”
